This policy explains how bitcoininsights.io (the “site”) uses cookies and similar technologies. It forms part of our privacy policy.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser. They let the site remember information between page views, such as whether you are logged in or the details you entered in a form. Similar technologies, such as a browser’s local storage, work in a similar way, and this policy covers them too.
2. How the site uses cookies
The site sets very few cookies. You can read every article, use the price chart, the exchange table and the calculators without any cookie being set for tracking or advertising. We do not currently use advertising cookies or third-party analytics cookies.
The cookies the site can set fall into two groups:
- Strictly necessary cookies, which the site needs to work, for example to keep administrators logged in or to serve the right version of a cached page. These do not need your consent under EU and UK law.
- Preference cookies, which are set only if you choose to save your details when you leave a comment.
3. Cookies used on the site
| Cookie | Purpose | Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| comment_author_{hash} comment_author_email_{hash} comment_author_url_{hash} |
Remember your name, email and website for future comments. Set only if you tick “Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment”. | Preference (consent) | 347 days |
| _lscache_vary | Set by our caching system (LiteSpeed Cache) so that logged-in users and recent commenters see an up-to-date version of the page instead of the general cached copy. | Strictly necessary | Session |
| wordpress_test_cookie | Checks whether your browser accepts cookies. Used on the login page only. | Strictly necessary | Session |
| wordpress_logged_in_{hash} wordpress_sec_{hash} |
Keep site administrators and writers logged in. Not set for readers. | Strictly necessary | Session, or 14 days if “Remember Me” is ticked |
| wp-settings-{id} wp-settings-time-{id} |
Store admin screen preferences for logged-in site staff. Not set for readers. | Strictly necessary | 1 year |
4. Third-party services
The site’s live market data is fetched by our own server, and the site’s fonts are hosted on our own server. Viewing the price chart, exchange table or network figures therefore does not load content from exchanges, Google Fonts or other outside services in your browser, and those services cannot set cookies through our pages.
If you leave a comment, WordPress may check the Gravatar service, run by Automattic Inc., for a profile picture linked to your email address. Profile pictures are loaded from Gravatar’s servers, which are subject to Automattic’s privacy policy.
5. Managing cookies
You can see, block and delete cookies in your browser settings. The help pages for the main browsers explain how:
Blocking strictly necessary cookies will not stop you reading the site, but it may stop the comment form from remembering your details, and staff will not be able to log in. To remove saved comment details, delete the site’s cookies in your browser.
6. Changes to this policy
If we add new cookies, for example for analytics, advertising or a newsletter signup, we will update this policy before they are used. Where the law requires it, we will also ask for your consent through a cookie banner before any non-necessary cookies are set.
7. Contact
Questions about cookies can be sent to contact@bitcoininsights.io.
