"Buy for" is the lowest ask on the exchange's order book, "Sell for" the highest bid, before fees. Lowest and Highest compare fiat markets only. Not financial advice.
How the markets desk reports on Bitcoin
Bitcoin trades around the clock on hundreds of venues, and no single exchange sets the price. The table above pulls live bid and ask quotes from Coinbase, Kraken, Bitstamp, Gemini, Bitfinex and Binance in US dollars, euros and pounds, and marks the lowest buy and highest sell quote at any moment. Market reports in this section follow the same rule. Spot prices come from named exchanges or a public aggregator, ETF figures come from issuer data and fund filings, and network figures such as fees, hashrate and block height come from public explorers like mempool.space. When two sources disagree, the report gives both numbers and explains the gap rather than quoting whichever one makes the bigger headline.
What moves the Bitcoin price
The supply side of Bitcoin is fixed by code. New coins enter circulation only through the block subsidy paid to miners, that subsidy halves every 210,000 blocks, and total issuance is capped at 21 million BTC. The most recent halving, at block 840,000 in April 2024, cut the subsidy to 3.125 BTC per block. Demand is the part that changes week to week: inflows and outflows from the US spot Bitcoin ETFs approved by the SEC in January 2024, interest-rate expectations and dollar liquidity, corporate treasury buying, and leverage building up or unwinding in futures markets. Our explainer on what moves Bitcoin prices breaks these drivers down one by one, and why Bitcoin volatility persists covers why the swings stay large even as the market grows.

Sentiment data and its limits
The Fear and Greed Index above combines volatility, momentum, trading volume and social activity into a single score from 0 to 100. It is useful as a record of crowd mood, and readings at either extreme have lined up with several major turning points. They have also stayed pinned at “extreme fear” or “extreme greed” for weeks while the price kept moving in the same direction, so the index works best next to price and on-chain data, never instead of them. The guide to Bitcoin market sentiment signals shows how funding rates, ETF flows and exchange balances fill in what a single sentiment score leaves out.

Frequently asked questions
Why is the Bitcoin price different on each exchange?
Each exchange runs its own order book, so its price reflects the buyers and sellers active there. Differences in liquidity, trading fees, local currency demand and how quickly money can move between platforms all create small gaps. On large dollar markets the spread between venues is usually narrow, because traders buy where the price is lower and sell where it is higher until the gap closes. Smaller exchanges and less traded currency pairs tend to show wider differences, which is why the table above compares several platforms side by side in three currencies.
How often is the price on this page updated?
The exchange table refreshes every 30 seconds and the price chart updates about once a minute. Network figures in the header bar, including block height, fees and the halving countdown, are refreshed every 10 minutes from mempool.space. All of this data is fetched by the site’s own server, so the page loads quickly and visitors’ browsers never connect to the exchanges directly.
When is the next Bitcoin halving?
The next halving happens at block 1,050,000, when the block subsidy falls from 3.125 BTC to 1.5625 BTC. Blocks arrive roughly every 10 minutes on average, which puts the event in 2028, but the exact date depends on how fast blocks are actually found. The countdown in the header shows the number of blocks left in real time.
Does BitcoinInsights publish price predictions or trading signals?
No. Market coverage explains what moved, by how much and why, with sources attached. It does not set price targets or tell readers when to buy or sell. The BitcoinInsights mission page sets out the editorial standards behind this section.
